It's hard to believe that this is only my second stylized shoot with Callie Burgard. Its even harder to believe that we have only been real friends for about 6 months. I even find it hard to believe because I cant imagine my creative life without her. She is a constant support. She helps me when I am in a creative funk, she is there for me when I am on top of the world, and she is even there for me when I am crying my face off. So naturally when she asked me to send blooms for this GORGEOUS desert themed shoot, I said yes.
Lets begin with the amazing vendor list for this shoot. Sommer with Pretty Little Paper Co. (@prettylittlepaperco) made the most gorgeous paper goods! Her invitations and menus consisted of lovely script and water color touches that brought an elegance to the shoot. With so much color happening on the table, her paper goods helped balance while also complimenting the whole vision. Her talent speaks for itself, but I would also like to say that working with her was a real pleasure.
Speaking of elegance, lets talk about the gorgeous calligraphy window made by Chelsea Cohen (@misschelseaabriel). With gold ink and a cream frame, it was a perfect addition to the shoot. Another lovely addition was the gorgeous cactus shaped cupcakes made by Stacey with Cake on Sunday (@sundaystace).
To tie it all together, the linens were provided by Creative Coverings and the whole shoot was stylized by Callie, Kaitlyn Cockrill, and Kaylynn Rogers.Did you see those chargers?! Yeah those are the plates that go under the planting pots! So genius. This was all shot at LakeRidge Golf Course in Reno NV.
I really am so sad I as not able to be at this shoot in person, but it honestly turned out so amazing and I cant wait to work with these talented group of ladies again! If you are in the Reno/Tahoe area, you must call them! And remember that my paper blooms can be shipped anywhere in the country!
Have a wonderful day, lovelies!

Inspiration comes from many places for me. It could be anything from a song to a photo. I was scrolling through my feed and saw this GORGEOUS bouquet on @utahvalleybride page and it was like a creative light bulb was switched on and I needed to recreate it. It was a gorgeous mixture of orange, fuchsia, and greens and that was something I had never tried. So I went to work! Immediately I fell in love with the arrangement but I couldnt help but compare it to the real one. I felt so discouraged because it didnt look exactly like it. Ha! How ridiculous is that?! I was ready to never post about it and take it apart. Then I felt this sense of calm and then it was clear in my mind. Of course it didnt look like the original arrangement! It was made by two different people using two different mediums. Comparison truly is the thief of joy and man I am so happy that I fought past my initial hesitation.
With a new sense of confidence, I knew I wanted to get this piece in a photo shoot as soon as possible. I reached out to my favorite photographer, Lori Romney (@loriromneyphotography). Its the middle of the summer and I knew she would be so busy, but she made time and found the most gorgeous model (Mollee Armijo) and make up artist (Mykael Bishop). Everyone knows my love for Lori, but just in case you didnt, she is incredible. Her natural talent is obvious and her personality and kindness makes you a better person. I am so incredibly lucky to know her and to work with her. Something just clicks with us and its almost like we feed off each others energy and ideas. That is the best kind of creative friend! If you ever need a photography, you need to reach out to her!
We spent three hours shooting and creating on the spot. My favorite part of the whole morning was when I had an idea to put ferns in Mollee's hair. We tore apart a fern and added pieces from the tip of her braid to the top of her head. Finally finishing the made up "crown" with a gorgeous bougainvillea stem. Mykael did an incredible job matching the eyes and lips to the bouquet. It was already such a powerful color pallet so she made sure Mollee's make up complimented but didnt fight it. Looking at the photo's now, you can really see how well she matched the lip color to the whole look! And goodness, Mollee!! She is incredible. Her ability to stand in front of a camera and pose so effortlessly really amazed me! I was so happy that Lori found a model that not only complimented my work, but helped bring the whole look to a higher level.
I hope you enjoy these photos and I hope it gives you another look at how versitale the paper blooms can be. The real foliage was purchased from Flower Patch and Harmons Grocery Store (!!!) and added to the arrangement the day before the shoot took place. The paper flowers were handcut and handmade by me. I used fine italian crepe paper from Carte Fini Paper @cartefinicrepepaper. This creative life can be so hard but I am loving every single minute. Thank you for reading and for your support. I wouldnt be here without you!
Making new friends in this day and age is almost as instant as liking a photo. Luckily the wonderful wedding planner, Leslie from @lesliedawnevents found my Instagram page and reached out. She was setting up a stylized shoot with Shabby Apple to promote their bridesmaid dresses and she wanted to use my paper flowers. I am so happy that I said yes because I was able to meet so many incredible ladies and the one and only Travis Richardson @travisj_photo.
This is just a small example of how you can use paper flowers to make any special occasion more unique and fun! How adorable to these ladies look?! I am in love with this shoot!
Creative thinking is such a vulnerable state of mind. When you find a person who understands this and does everything in their power to help you feel safe and supported, well then, you keep that person in your life forever. This is how I feel about Callie Burgard. We met on Instagram and spoke for almost a year. Finally I had two reasons to visit Reno and this shoot is the result. Our theme was a Kate Spade inspired wedding with classic color scheme of navy, gold, and fuchsia pink. The bride was in a gorgeous dress from @tiffanysbridalboutique and she looked so beautiful and classic. Our groom was dressed in navy pants and a grey suit jacket which helped his boutonniere stand out! The Bridesmaids were both in floor length navy chiffon gowns that complimented the bride perfectly.
Callie specializes in event coordinating and just being an overall sweetheart. She found the perfect gold details and vendors to make this shoot a success. Our photographer was the one and only Anicia Beckwith (Pixella Productions), Make up by the lovely Laura Garcia and Hair by Marie Lear. Our linens were provided by Creative Coverings and we also had some of the most amazing macaroons I have ever had in my life all thanks to Whitney from @doughcatering. Last but not least we had the most adorable invitations, menues, and name place tags made by @thestylishscribe! Working with such a talented group of ladies really made me a better artist. It was so fun to bounce ideas off each other and create the perfect set up. This was the first time I decided to use real foliage with my paper flowers. WOW what a difference it makes.
I am super proud of this shoot. My goal was to show brides that their bouquet options are almost endless when you choose paper flowers. By adding real foliage you are bringing your bouquet up another level and you still get to keep the flowers for the rest of your life. What a wonderful way to remember one of the most important days of your life!
Keates Wedding 2013
The Big Bang, where it all began--the infamous Keates Wedding. I never felt like I was crafty person but when I got engaged I found the wonderful land of Pinterest. I spent multiple late nights researching colors, themes, dresses, and venues when I found it....a paper flower bouquet! My whole world changed and my days became consumed with paper, scissors, and hot glue guns. Slowly but surely I began shopping at Michaels instead of Nordstrom and a clean house became a crafty and always messy house.
Once my color scheme was set in stone, I set out to find the perfect shades of blush, gold, and cream. Every night was spent practicing and perfecting templates and pushing the limits to make new flowers. After a year and a half of hand cutting and gluing each pedal, I was rewarded with about 300 flowers ready to be arranged into 10 centerpieces.
This huge accomplishment of making my own flowers for such a special day was honestly the spark that lit my creative fire. Even though it took me 2 years to open The Lovely Ave, I spent those 2 years learning and growing. I needed to have that time to really figure out what I want to do. I am so lucky that I found this spark.

Flower Crown Re-Born
The Flower Crown is a simple but intricate piece. Each crown is different and has its own recipe. It is so easy to make a mistake, either too many flowers or not enough--too much foliage or the wrong color of foliage. This balancing act is a tough one to figure out, but Stevi from @missstevimarie has mastered it and is one of the most talented flower crown creators I have ever seen!
Naturally when she reached out to work with me, I screamed and danced my happy dance! I spent a whole night perfecting three flowers because I wanted to make sure that the flowers that I sent her way where the most life-like that I had ever made. I crossed my fingers, tapped up the package, and sent it on its pretty way.
Three long days later I received the news I was hoping for. Stevi was so impressed and happy with my flowers and how the whole shoot turned out. This feedback from someone who I have been following since I started this journey was incredible.
However, when I saw the photos for the first time, I was in shock. This couldn't be my flowers! Stevi arranged them on a perfectly balanced crown, with gorgeous foliage. She brilliantly staggered the flowers from smallest to largest but still allowed enough space for each flower to shine. Lori Romney @lroiromneyphotography is so incredible with the camera. She captures light, tones, and beauty so effortlessly and I couldn't help but tear up when these photos loaded on the computer.
The great thing about this collaboration is the positive response we have received! Stevi and I are now working together to put crown like this together. They will be available in the shop soon and of course custom orders are always welcomed!
